Human beings are unique in that they are the only living creatures on earth to communicate using language. While there are many other animals such as whales, birds, and apes, that use highly developed communication methods such as vocal or visual signs, they lack the depth and complexity of communication methods used by humans. Such complexity is most evident in the manner in which humans utilize a large vocabulary and grammar to create languages.

Languages in-of themselves are highly flexible and continuously changing, allowing humans to create thousands and thousands of different languages and dialects over the millennia.
